If Queens Park Rangers are to survive, it won’t be in a blaze of goals and glory, as Harry Redknapp prepares to shut up shop in a bid to secure bore draws away from home.

In Wednesday’s success at Stamford Bridge, Redknapp not only garnered three points, but also, it seems, stumbled upon the blueprint for a productive away day.

It won’t necessarily be pretty, but Redknapp cares not, having endured the unedifying sight of his side conceding three times inside 29 minutes at home to Liverpool.

The Hoops boss belatedly shouldered much of the blame for that ugly first half, admitting his players were in no position to stifle Luis Suarez and co.

“Maybe it wasn’t entirely down to the players, perhaps I set them up a little bit too open,” he said.

“And maybe the message wasn’t clear enough to one or two, exactly what we expected from them during the game.

If that were an aberration on Redknapp’s part, it prompted an inspired change in tack, one that will see him curb his attacking instincts, for the time being at least.

“I took a gamble, I played Adel Taarabt up front [at Chelsea]. He’s never played there before. I played him up there as a main striker and made us difficult to beat behind that,” he added.

“The situation we’re in, we’re going to have to claw out results, get some 0-0 draws and go and nick a 1-0 where we can.

“I think teams think we’re going to go out there and smash teams up, it’s not going to happen really.

“The players liked what we did the other day, they liked the way we played. It gives them a bit of belief in what we did, it worked. We’ve got to make sure we’re solid.”
