Tottenham’s Scott Parker looking to positives after injury lay-off

Scott Parker says he prefers to look at his injury lay-off as a positive after returning to Tottenham’s starting line-up for their 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday.

The 31-year-old started his first game of the Premier League campaign against the Red Devils after picking up an Achilles injury in the summer, which left the England international sidelined for five months.

Despite his prolonged absence, Parker admitted his body needed a rest following a taxing Euro 2012 campaign.

With the former Chelsea man back to full fitness, Parker is hoping to rediscover his best form after Tottenham defensive midfielder Sandro suffered a season-ending knee injury in January.

“I think my body needed that rest because I’ve played a lot of football for many years now and that was probably the longest I’ve been on the sidelines,” Parker told the Tottenham website.

“I was out for five months, but I was in the gym every day for the best part of four months of that time, doing conditioning and strength work. I think the break has really done me good and I feel fit and sharp.

“I touch wood when I say it, because football can come around and bite you on the backside, but I feel really good. Now I’m looking to establish myself back in the team and push on from there. I’ve had a few games now and I’m raring to go and get right back into it.”
