Roberto Mancini says Liverpool’s Luis Suárez is one of the best players in England ahead of the Reds clash against Manchester City on Sunday.

The Uruguay international has scored 17 Premier League goals this term, including a spectacular free-kick in a 2-2 draw with the Citizens at Anfield in September.

“Suárez for me is a top player,” Mancini said. “I like him because he is strong and he works hard. For me, he is one of the best in England.”

On Thursday, Mario Balotelli completed a £19m move to AC Milan from the defending Premier League champions, meaning City have room to strengthen in their attacking department.

But Mancini played down talk of City making a summer swoop for Liverpool’s star man.

“Suárez? But he plays for Liverpool,” added Mancini. “Yeah I like his quality. He has quality and he is strong.”

Meanwhile, on Friday, Suárez committed his future to Liverpool regardless of whether the Merseyside outfit finish in the top four this season.

“I will wait until the end of the season and see how we are doing,” Suárez told the Daily Mail.

“We won’t know until then how we are doing and what our position is so I am prepared to wait until that time.

“But I want to say now that, if you want to know what will happen to me if we don’t qualify for the Champions League, then I will say this – I have a contract with Liverpool and I am very happy here. I will stay.”
