New Zealand v England: Jos Buttler keen to cement his place

New Zealand v England: Wicketkeeper Jos Buttler is determined to keep the gloves beyond current tour ahead of third T20

England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler is determined to keep the gloves beyond the tour to New Zealand ahead of Friday’s decisive third T20 International in Wellington.

The 22-year old Somerset bastman has enjoyed a prolific series so far, striking 32 from 16 deliveries in Auckland, followed by a valiant 54 from 30 in Hamilton.

Having displaced Craig Kieswetter towards the end of England’s ODI series in India earlier this year, Buttler is keen to cement his place behind the stumps in limited overs cricket.

“My keeping is progressing really well and I’m gaining more confidence every game,” said Buttler.

“I’m just concentrating on this tour at present. When I get home I’ll have conversations with the right people – it’s a huge part of my game now.

“Everyone needs two strings to their bow; offering something with the gloves is really important.

“I’m working hard on it in training and feel like there’ll be a constant improvement.”

Buttler was also effusive about his education at Somerset, which he believes has stood him in good stead as his international prospects continue to prosper.

“[Captain] Marcus Trescothick is a big inspiration since I’ve been coming through the ranks at Somerset and the size of Taunton encourages you to go for big shots,” added Buttler.

“I take every day as it comes and keep my feet on the ground; it’s dangerous to lull yourself into a false sense of security.”

Buttler and England head into Friday’s T20 International knowing that victory will see them claim the series, after New Zealand drew level in the three-match series in Hamilton on Tuesday.
