Steve McManaman believes Liverpool have shown signs of progress in the Premier League this season under Brendan Rodgers.

The Reds are currently in seventh position after a difficult start to the season before climbing the table thanks to a number of eye-catching performances in 2013.

Liverpool were particularly impressive against the top four this term, earning points at Chelsea and Manchester City, while securing a 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Rodgers’s men have scored 62 goals – already 15 more than the 2011-12 campaign – and former Reds winger McManaman is feeling confident about the
Merseyside outfit’s prospects next season.

“All we want to see at the moment is progression,” McManaman told Liverpool’s website.

“We know that we have fallen behind other sides in recent years, so all we want as fans is to close the gap – and to do that we’ll also need to have patience.

“The performances against the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United have been really strong. But then draws at home against West Ham or away at Reading, have hurt us.

“I think you can see the performances and you can see the way we have hammered teams this year.

“We just need to try and drive forward to a level where, 80 per cent of the time, we are putting these performances in and getting the points.”
