The Montpellier winger has been heavily linked with a move away from the Ligue 1 side, with both Inter Milan and AC Milan also understood to be on the trail of the Morocco international.
And the 23-year-old, who has 19 international caps to his name, says a move to the Premier League would be his first choice.
“I have told everyone that England will be my first choice,” Belhanda is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
“Aston Villa is a great club with a big history playing in the best league in the world, so let’s see what will happen.”
Belhanda scored 10 Ligue 1 goals in 30 appearances for Montpellier in the French top flight this season.
Belhanda’s comments come after Montpellier president Louis Nicollin claimed that Villa are one of the clubs after the winger.
Asked if there are concrete offers for the player, Nicollin told LeSport10: “Yes. From AC Milan, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Galatasaray and Aston Villa.
“We have no problem now, he [Belhanda] has the authority to agree with whoever he wants now.”
