Lewis Holtby believes that Tottenham’s squad is one of the most competitive in the Premier League as he gears up for his second season at White Hart Lane.

The Germany international made 17 appearances for André Villas-Boas’ men last term after securing a £1.5m January move to north London from Schalke.

And the 22-year-old, who captained Germany at this summer’s Under-21 European championships, is relishing the competition for starting spots at his new club.

“I really enjoyed playing with the lads,” Holtby told Spurs’ website.

“There is so much quality here and it’s a fight for places because the whole squad is so competitive. It’s so enjoyable playing football with these guys.”

Holtby is also looking forward to taking part in a full pre-season training schedule with Spurs ahead of the 2013-14 campaign.

“We meet for pre-season and then go to Hong Kong and that will be important,” he added.

“It’s a chance to get to know everyone a bit more and [a trip like] that was the only thing I missed when I joined. I just jumped straight in!”
