David Moyes says he has been impressed by the “excellent” Robin van Persie during his first few days in charge of Manchester United.
The Netherlands striker was one of United’s key men last season as they claimed their 20th top-flight title under Sir Alex Ferguson following Van Persie’s £24m transfer from Arsenal last August.
Van Persie scored 26 Premier League goals for the Red Devils as their prised the trophy back from local rivals Manchester City.
And Moyes, who is currently preparing his squad for the new season after being appointed as Ferguson’s successor, has been hugely impressed by the 29-year-old’s work so far.
“We’ve enjoyed having Robin here,” said Moyes. “He was a massively important part of Manchester United last season and I’m hoping he’ll have just as big an influence this season.
“I got to see him this week for the first time. His control, touch, awareness in the small games is excellent. I’ve really been impressed by his professionalism, too. He’s never complained: he’s worked hard.
“We’re trying to get him into a position where he can do what he did last year – score goals for United and be a big influence on the team.”
