Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva wants to enjoy ‘great’ start to the season
Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva believes the Reds should be allowed to get a "bit carried away" by their "great" start to the season
Lucas Leiva believes Liverpool should be allowed to get a “bit carried away” by their great start to the Premier League season.
The Reds were 1-0 winners against reigning champions Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday, propelling the Merseyside outfit to the top of the table.
And Lucas wants Liverpool to continue playing every game as if it were “a final”.
“I don’t think it’s dangerous for the fans to get a bit carried away after a win like this – they should celebrate,” Lucas told Liverpool’s website.
“It’s a great start. We can’t deny that. That’s the way we wanted to start.
“But for the players, we need to keep our calm and keep our focus as it’s a long, long journey until the end of the season.
“For sure, it’s a great start and much better than last season. We just need to keep our focus and try to play every game like a final.
“There’s a greater belief among us now. We all believed previously, but now we have a stronger team.
“We’ve always said the main target this season is a top-four finish as we all want to play Champions League football.
“If we keep going like we have done now, then it’s going to be a great season. But the fans just have to celebrate, and if they have the belief then they will support us even more.”
