Alex Song has fuelled speculation suggesting that he could return to Arsenal by admitting he still harbours an affection for his former club.

The 26-year-old midfielder has struggled to hold down a spot in Barcelona’s first team since moving to the Camp Nou from Emirates Stadium in August 2012.

Song has made just 39 appearances in all competitions for the Catalan side following his transfer to Spain and has been linked with a switch back to Arsenal.

And the Cameroon international, who spent six years in north London, says a return to the club could be on the cards.

“I do not know what will happen in the future, but it is true that I spent some fantastic seasons there [at Arsenal],” Song told RMC.

“We will see what happens, but for now I’m a Barcelona player.”

Song was limited to just 17 La Liga starts last season as Barcelona won the Spanish title.

He scored 10 goals and made 24 assists in 205 appearances for Arsenal between 2005 and 2012 before his £15m transfer to Barcelona.
