Jack Wilshere believes England will miss the pace of Arsenal duo Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Montenegro and Poland.

Walcott has been ruled out until later this month after undergoing abdominal surgery, while Oxlade-Chamberlain is out of action with a knee problem.

But although Wilshere admits that the pair’s absence is a “blow” he is convinced that the Three Lions have enough strength in depth to cope without them.

“It’s a blow [not to have Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain]. Both of them bring pace to the team,” said Wilshere ahead of Friday’s clash against Montenegro at Wembley.

“They’re two different players but they’re both really quick. Theo skills defenders and Alex will pick the ball up and run with it.

“I think Theo is a bit closer to coming back than Alex, but he’s working hard and is in good shape so when he gets a chance to run again he’ll be fit.

“We will miss them but we’ve got a good squad here, we’ve got [Wayne] Rooney and [Daniel] Sturridge back now, too.”
