The Belgian youngster produced a starring performance in his first top-flight start as the 18-year-old netted two brilliant goals to help inspire the Red Devils to come from behind and seal a 2-1 win at Sunderland.
Moyes, who replaced Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford this summer, handed the United talisman his Everton debut over a decade ago, and the Scot sees similarities between a teenage Rooney and Januzaj.
“He has been so good, it was hard to stop him,” Moyes is quoted as saying by Daily Mail.
“I remember giving Wayne his debut, and Adnan is certainly that quality. He is going to be a special talent. He has got goals, he has got ability on the ball, but we will keep his feet on the ground.”
Rooney, 27, backed his manager’s decision to hand Januzaj a chance to impress in the United first-team.
“He’s very confident,” Rooney said.
“A lot of the young players who come through are a little bit timid and shy, but he looks comfortable and he’s confident in his own ability, which you need to be.
“He takes the ball, he runs at players and he’s got great ability. I think it’s great the manager has thrown him into the side, especially with what has happened in the last few games.”
