Andre Villas-Boas insists Tottenham Hotspur are not a stepping stone to anybody after Vlad Chiriches’ agent claimed the Romanian hopes to impress Chelsea at White Hart Lane.

The 23-year-old, who has been capped 21 times by Romania, completed a €9.3m (£8.5m) move to the north London side from Steaua Bucharest in August.

On Wednesday, the defender’s agent Victor Becali suggested the Blues were still tracking the former Bucharest man and predicted Chelsea to make a swoop for Chiriches in a couple of seasons.

“If he has one or two good seasons at Tottenham, Chelsea will be willing to pay a large sum to buy Chiriches,” Becali told Sport.ro.

“Mourinho says he has been aware of him since he was at Real Madrid.”

The summer signing impressed in a 2-0 win at Anzhi Makhachkala following his agent’s comments, but Villas-Boas slammed Becali ahead of Tottenham’s clash against West Ham United on Sunday.

“Obviously the comments are completely disproportionate and out of reality,” Villas-Boas said.

“I have spoken to the player, told the player to speak to the agent and we have acted accordingly.

“We consider ourselves a big club. We’re not a stepping stone to anybody.

“We don’t expect Becali to retract himself because it is not part of his character, but it was completely out of proportion the comments that he made.”
