West Bromwich Albion

Boaz Myhill Had very little to do thanks to his back four defending well against a revitalized Arsenal. Blocked out Giroud very well when he was called into action. There was nothing he could do about Wilshere’s goal. 6/10

Liam Ridgewell Very rarely challenged down the left-hand side of the pitch as Arsenal tried to focus most of their play down their left and through the middle. Got forward well and put a few good balls into the box. 6

Billy Jones Managed to nullify Wilshere, who wasn’t enjoying his role on the left. Got forward very well on the counter. Very lucky not to concede a penalty when he brought down Wilshere in the area. 6

Gareth McAuley Handled Giroud well throughout the game and kept tight to the French striker. 7

Jonas Olsson Could do nothing about the deflection for Wilshere’s goal, although he could’ve closed down the midfielder sooner. 6

Stephane Sessegnon A lively performance as usual for Sessegnon, who seemed to be given creative freedom to swap flanks in the final third. 6

Nicolas Anelka Playing against his former club for the umpteenth time. He should have got his first West Brom goal but he failed to anticipate Berahino’s pass. Fired another shot across the goal when it was perhaps easier to score. 5

Youssouf Mulumbu Strong as ever in the centre of the park as you’d expect, and worked hard to win back possession. 7

Morgan Amalfitano Wonderful ball for Yacob’s goal. Worked tirelessly before leaving the pitch to a standing ovation. 7

Claudio Yacob (Man of the match) His goal was incredibly well-taken, powering his header into the ground which meant the ball bounced over Szczęsny. He handled Wilshere perfectly, giving him no space to operate. 8

Saido Berahino Took the game to the Arsenal defence and created a few issues for Jenkinson. 6

Substitutes

James Morrison No goal for the Scotland international this time around as he failed to get a real grip on the game. 5

Shane Long Won a few key headers in the area but never found himself in a position for a clear shot. 5

Chris Brunt N/A

Arsenal

Wojciech Szczęsny Fantastic early save from Berahino’s deflected shot. Changed direction and got down to it very well. 6

Laurent Koscielny Managed to keep both Anelka and Long quiet but was lucky to avoid conceding a penalty for a late shove on Long who made a meal of the situation. 6

Kieran Gibbs Bombed forward but to little effect. Özil picked him out early on but all he could do was fire over. Did the defensive side of his job well. 6

Carl Jenkinson Defended well against Berahino and provided a few good crosses. 6

Per Mertesacker Didn’t seem particularly challenged as the game was very nip and tuck. Mopped up well but nothing more. 6

Jack Wilshere Took his goal exceptionally well, despite it deflecting off of Olsson. Too easily dispossessed in the centre of the park and was no match for Yacob. Spent far too much time on the floor looking for free-kicks. 7

Mesut Özil Oozed class whenever he got the ball. He sprayed passes from one side of the pitch to the other with ease but beyond that his influence was cut out by an extremely well-drilled Baggies midfield. 7

Mikel Arteta Didn’t get forward as much as he usually does but was effective in his role in the middle of the park. 6

Mathieu Flamini Did his job of breaking up the play very quietly and is starting to form a strong partnership with Arteta. 6

Aaron Ramsey Not quite the commanding performance that we’ve got used to seeing from the young Welshman but was stifled in the final third. 5

Olivier Giroud Aside from a 30-yard shot around the half-hour mark, Giroud was marked out of the first half by West Brom’s tight defensive unit. 6

Substitutes

Tomas Rosicky A largely ineffective performance from the Czech, who failed to create many chances. 5

Nicklas Bendtner Barely saw a touch of the ball and was out of the game in the closing minutes. 5
