Lukas Podolski has joked that he would rather retire than join Tottenham Hotspur.

The popular 28-year-old, who joined Arsenal on a free transfer from Cologne in 2012, has netted 19 goals in 46 games in all competitions for the Gunners.

And Podolski ensured that he earned further adoration from Arsenal supporters after revealing on Twitter that he would rather quit football than join their bitter rivals Spurs.

With Podolski in such high spirits, it’s no surprise that the German revealed earlier this month that the Gunners squad is brimming with confidence in the title race.

“We have a good team and we have a lot of fun together,” Podolski told Arsenal’s website.

“I have never been in a team like this before; we stay together, we have fun and we have played a good season so far.

“It has been really good and I hope we stay on top until the end of the season.”
