The Gunners have been linked with a move for the 20-year-old midfielder, who has scored one goal and made four assists in 14 Bundesliga appearances this term.
There are certain arrangements we cannot change
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has regularly played down speculation linking the Blues with a move for Draxler after facing the German youngster in Champions League group stage.
In November, the Germany international revealed that he is a fan of Arsenal’s philosophy but remained tight-lipped on a potential switch to the Premier League leaders.
Schalke general manager Horst Heldt is optimistic that the German outfit can keep Draxler beyond January despite the playmaker’s buyout clause, which is reported to stand at £37m.
“We are still hopeful Julian [Draxler] is to stay on at our club,” said Heldt. “However, there are certain arrangements we cannot change!”
Draxler spoke of his admiration for the Gunners in November, fuelling speculation that he could move to the north London side in the new year.
“I have always said English teams are very big clubs and Arsenal is of course one of them,” said Draxler.
“Of course I sometimes speak to Mesut Ozil or Per Mertesacker about the team, about the club, and they always have good words and they tell me nice things.
“They always have very young players, they play attractive football and that’s what I like.
“You never know what happens – but Arsenal is a very, very nice team.”
