David De Gea believes extra training sessions are helping Manchester United to improve after a dismal start to the season.

The Red Devils are currently on a three-game losing streak following defeats by Tottenham Hotspur, Swansea City and Sunderland in the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup respectively.

And United goalkeeper De Gea, who moved to Old Trafford in 2011, revealed the defending Premier League champions are staying behind after training in a bid to buck the current trend.

“We frequently stay after training to practice crossing and finishing,” De Gea told United’s website.

“We do it especially when there are no matches in the following days and I think the extra training helps me and the other players to improve.”

De Gea heaped praise on United striker Javier Hernandez, revealing that the Mexican has helped the shot stopper become a better player.

“We help each other – he tries to make it difficult for me and I try to make it difficult for him,” he added.

“We always do our best and he’s a player who gives his all in training.

“He is one of the most professional players I have known over the course of my career. He is truly a great player and a good friend.”
