Jose Mourinho has rated Chelsea’s season so far as an “eight out of 10” after watching his side move to the top of the Premier League table.

The Blues overcame Hull City 2-0 at the KC Stadium on Saturday to move to the summit of the English top flight ahead of Arsenal and Manchester City’s weekend games.

Chelsea have won 14 and drawn four of their opening 21 games this season since Mourinho’s return to Stamford Bridge, losing three.

We could do better because we lost some points that we shouldn’t have, but it could also be worse

And although the Portuguese coach admits that there is room for improvement, he has been largely satisfied with the west Londoners’ performances.

“We could do better because we lost some points that we shouldn’t have, but it could also be worse,” said Mourinho when asked to rate the season so far out of 10.

“Not a five, not a 10. Seven, seven-and-a-half, eight – around there.

“I think things come naturally, step by step. They [the players] know that next year we are going to be better. Winning or not winning, you have to be on top of your responsibilities every day.

“They are doing well, they are enjoying it and now, let’s see how it ends.”
