Steven Defour wants to leave Porto amid reported interest from Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, according to the midfielder’s agent.

The 25-year-old has been limited to just six Liga Sagres starts for Porto this season, prompting reports of a possible exit in the January transfer window.

The Belgium international is expected to be part of his country’s 23-man squad for next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

And Defour’s agent Paul Stefani revealed that the former Standard Liege playermaker wants to quit Porto to secure regular first-team football and cement his World Cup spot.

“Steven will tell his club he wants to leave because he wants to play in the World Cup,” Stefani told

He added: “Aston Villa? It can become real. There was interest from a few other clubs in England but to say that he may sign there tomorrow? No.

“Anderlecht has been the most concrete from the beginning. They always said they wanted to have Steven.

“Of course Anderlecht has a chance but Steven receives phone calls from other agents who promise him a transfer to Tottenham.

“It is normal that when you hear the name of Tottenham, we want to think.”
