Arsene Wenger believes that Arsenal’s defensive performance will dictate whether the Gunners can take a positive result away from Liverpool on Saturday.

The north Londoners head to Anfield two points clear at the top of the Premier League table and having not lost a game since their defeat by Manchester City back in December.

Arsenal have the second-best defensive record in the top flight, with only Chelsea having conceded fewer goals than Wenger’s men.

And the Frenchman acknowledges that his side will have their work cut out in trying to keep Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge quiet on Saturday.

“They are a good duo,” said Wenger. “Both of them can score, give assists and are good dribblers. Once a team has those kinds of strengths and variety in attacking they are always dangerous.

“Liverpool are in the race. I think they are eight points behind us so of course they are in in there. They have a strong offensive potential as we know.

“I believe the quality of our defensive game will be very important in the end result on Saturday afternoon.”
