Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Liverpool are assessing a number of potential targets ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Reds boss was quizzed about Yevhen Konoplyanka at his pre-match media conference on Friday after the Dnipro winger scored the winner in a 1-0 victory over Tottenham in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Liverpool were reported to be close to signing Konoplyanka in January after managing director Ian Ayre flew to Ukraine to thrash out a deal for the £16.5m-rated playmaker but a transfer failed to materialise before the deadline.

When asked if he had watched the Spurs loss and whether Konoplyanka had caught his eye, Rodgers replied: “I didn’t see the game.”

On potential summer targets, Rodgers added: “We’ve got lots of people that we’re looking at and we’ll assess where we’re at at the end of the season and take it from there.”

The Liverpool manager also stressed the importance of the Reds securing a return to the Champions League in order to attract “different type of players”.

“I think it’s vitally important. For us to go to that next level that’s where we need to be,” Rodgers continued.

“I took over the team in eighth and that’s what we have been building towards over the last 18 months.

“If we can get into the elite competition, it attracts a different type of player as well. I think it’s very important and hopefully it will be this year.”
