Brendan Rodgers admits Liverpool duo Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez must show tactical discipline if the Reds are going to beat Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday.

The Reds strike partnership have scored a combined 37 goals which have helped the 18-time English champions move into pole position in the race to secure a fourth-placed finish.

However, Liverpool have looked too open at times this season, particularly in a 3-3 draw with Everton at Goodison Park in November and a 5-3 victory over Stoke City last month.

And Liverpool manager Rodgers said that Sturridge and Suarez, as well as the Reds team as a whole, would be required to “work like animals” when without the ball to close down spaces for Premier League leaders Arsenal to exploit.

“Behind Daniel and Luis we just need to ensure that tactically we can block and cover the spaces,” Rodgers told Liverpool’s website. “That’s something that Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson did so well against Everton.

“I’ll always go with an offensive mind-set but there always has to be tactical discipline. I see them as two very talented players we are looking to integrate into a team structure. My job is to fit them into the team.

“They all have to buy into the team and we’ve seen that during my time here. The team is a work in progress; I don’t set it up just for Luis and Daniel.

“It’s about good players and maximising their talents. At this moment in time as we have evolved as a team and got better they have grown with it as well.”
