Wojciech Szczesny tried to convince Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski to join Arsenal, the Poland star has revealed.

The 25-year-old is set to complete a move to Bundesliga and Champions League holders Bayern Munich in the summer after deciding to leave current club Dortmund.

However, Lewandowski, who was linked with the Premier League leaders, revealed that Gunners goalkeeper Szczesny was desperate for his compatriot to make the switch to The Emirates in the next window.

“I can confirm that Wojciech Szczesny tried to convince me to join Arsenal,” Lewandowski told Polish tabloid Fakt.

“We had several talks about this. It was him who did most of the talking, how the club looks inside, what Arsene Wenger thinks of me.

“When we trained before the Champions League games at Colney, there were important people from Arsenal at our sessions as well.”

Lewandowski added that he is determined to help Dortmund do well until the end of the season ahead of his summer switch to their bitter rivals Bayern.

“I just lived with it. Straight after signing the deal with Bayern, I released the statement where I committed myself to Borussia for the final six months,” Lewandowski added.

“I’m not thinking about all this, and what will happen, it’s not the right time.”
