Steven Gerrard can get Liverpool over the line in the Premier League title race, according to Alan Hansen.

The Reds skipper drove his side to a 3-2 victory over third-placed Manchester City from a deep-lying midfield role at Anfield on Sunday.

With Gerrard in this sort of form, Liverpool could take a massive step towards ending their 24-year wait

33-year-old Gerrard has scored 13 goals and made 11 assists in 33 Premier League appearances this season.

And former Liverpool centre-half Hansen feels Gerrard is emulating Reds legend Graeme Souness in his new midfield role.

“When [Gerrard] played further forward he used to rush from A to B to C and then back to A again,” Gerrard said.

“But now he has taken a more disciplined role, sitting in the hole in a similar position to the one where Graeme Souness played so well.

“[The Chelsea match] has the look of a title decider about it but with Gerrard in this sort of form, Liverpool could take a massive step towards ending their 24-year wait.”
