West Ham

Wojciech Szczesny Made a couple of decent saves but didn’t have any major involvement. Was helpless to stop Jarvis from scoring. 6/10

Bacary Sagna Got forward well, placing a few teasing crosses and was composed on the ball. 6

Thomas Vermaelen The Arsenal captain was solid when called upon. Got the assist for Giroud’s goal after pumping the ball back into the box from a cleared corner. 7

Kim Källström The Swede was decent in his first start for the Gunners but let Nocerino get passed him for the opening goal. 6

Per Mertesacker Marked Andy Carroll well, matching height with height and won the majority of the aerial battles. 7

Laurent Koscielny Looked solid when called upon, doing everything right to keep West Ham out. 7

Santi Cazorla (man of the match) Was a constant threat and was dangerous on the ball throughout, supplying a great assist through the gaps of the West Ham defence for Podolski to slot home. 9

Mikel Arteta A terrier-like performance from the Spaniard, who was energetic in the centre of midfield. 7

Olivier Giroud Showed great strength and technique to score a difficult chance on his weaker right foot. He seemed focused in today’s game and improved as the game played out, linking well with Podolski, Rosicky and Cazorla. 8

Tomas Rosicky Another spirited performance from the Czech, who linked well with those around him. 7

Lukas Podolski Persistently drove at the Hammers defence and was rewarded with two goals. The first, a clinical finish low into the bottom corner after receiving a lovely disguised ball from Cazorla. The second, a powerfully-struck shot from the left side of the six yard box, over the helpless Adrian. 9

Aaron Ramsey Slotted well into the game and provided a great cushioned header to assist to Podolski. 6

Carl Jenkinson A late substitute and had little time to make an impact. 5

West Ham United

Adrián Made some fine saves to keep out Källström and Podolski but was unable to do anything for all the goals that the Hammers conceded. 5

Guy Demel After a positive start the defender, he went missing in the latter stages. 4

Pablo Armero Got forward with bags of energy, but rarely troubled the Arsenal defence. 4

Antonio Nocerino Made a brilliant evading run past Källström which led to the West Ham goal. Struggled in the second half, giving the ball away cheaply at times. 5

James Tomkins A bright opening to the game but fizzled out as Arsenal continued to drive forward. 5

Winston Reid Did well in the early stages, absorbing the pressure but struggled with Arsenal’s attacking numbers. 5

Mark Noble Distributed the ball well when in possession and carried out some good movement across the pitch. 5

Mohamed Diamé Always endeavoured to drive forward and had a great opportunity a few yards out but blazed the ball over the bar. 6

Andy Carroll Not as influential as we know him to be, mainly due to Arsenal man-marking him out of the match. Replaced by Carlton Cole. 4

Stewart Downing A poor mistake by Downing ultimately began West Ham’s downfall, after taking a short throw-in in his own right-back spot and playing it back across goal straight to Cazorla, leading to Arsenal’s opener. Replaced by Joe Cole. 5

Matt Jarvis Caused some early pressure down the flank. Scored the opening goal heading in bravely into the net in the six-yard box. Replaced by Vaz Te. 6

Carlton Cole Had a decent headed opportunity that went over. 5

Ricardo Vaz Te A late substitute who had little time to make an impact. N/A

Joe Cole A late substitute who had little time to make an impact. N/A
