And in a mark of respect to the 96 fans who went to the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on 15 April 1989 and never came home, Giroud kissed his black armband and pointed to the sky.
Giroud was immediately praised on Twitter for his tribute, with former Reds midfielder David Thompson among those to comment on the striker’s classy actions.
