Arsenal’s loss at Everton worse than Stamford Bridge rout, says Nevin

Former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin feels Arsenal's 3-0 loss at Everton was worse than their 6-0 battering at Stamford Bridge

Arsenal’s 3-0 loss to top-four rivals Everton was worse than their 6-0 battering at Chelsea last month, according to Pat Nevin.

The Gunners, who have fallen away badly in the Premier League title race, were on the receiving end of yet another thrashing after Steven Naismith and Romelu Lukaku netted and Mikel Arteta put the ball into his own net at Goodison Park.

I always felt Arsene Wenger will get the best out of his teams if players are injured, you look and you wonder are they really believing in him anymore

And Nevin was left astounded by the lack of passion shown by the Arsenal players and questioned whether the Gunners squad have faith in under-fire manager Arsene Wenger, whose contract is set to expire in the summer.

“I feel there is a lack of fight and belief. There is a lack of everything: urgency, organisation – you name it!” Nevin told Newstalk.

“It was one of the most insipid performances that I’ve seen from an Arsenal side which is a bit scary for Arsenal fans.

“I thought this was a bit worse than the 6-0 loss to Chelsea because at least you had the excuse of being down to 10 men and Chelsea started on fire.

“But they were just bullied all over the place by an Everton team that wanted it more.”

He added: “It is as if the group of players didn’t actually believe in it.

“Arteta seemed to have the game face on but it was much to that the Everton fans were giving him stick all the way through it.

“Looking through the rest of them… Giroud didn’t look like he fancied it. It just seemed to me quite baffling.

“Up until now, I always felt Arsene Wenger will get the best out of his teams if players are injured, you look now and you wonder are they really believing in him anymore.”
