The former Blues winger was left impressed by Henderson’s performance in a 3-2 victory over Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, despite the England international receiving a red card for dangerous challenge on Samir Nasri in injury time.
It was a horrible challenge that he got sent off for. But it wasn’t malicious. It was a stinking touch he took it and he was chasing after it
Henderson, who moved to Liverpool in a £20m deal from Sunderland in 2011, has been a revelation for the Reds this season, scoring four goals and making seven assists in 34 Premier League appearances.
“I’ve often talked about Ramires a lot at Chelsea. You look at him and think, ‘that’s just weird that you can run that fast for so long’. It’s extraordinary. Henderson is up there and he has really come into it,” Nevin told Newstalk’s Off The Ball.
Nevin added that he felt sorry for Henderson dismissal against the Citizens which rules the former Black Cats man out of Liverpool’s games against Norwich City, Chelsea and Crystal Palace.
“I feel really sorry for him. It was a horrible challenge that he got sent off for. But it wasn’t malicious. It was a stinking touch he took it and he was chasing after it,” Nevin added.
