Manuel Pellegrini insists he has no regrets over not becoming Liverpool manager in 2010.

The former Real Madrid head coach spoke to the Reds about the possibility of succeeding Rafael Benitez before deciding to take over at La Liga outfit Malaga.

I have no regrets at the moment because I now have the chance to manage Manchester City

Pellegrini’s Manchester City side make the trip to Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday as the 60-year-old aims to cut the Reds’s lead to a point.

And the City manager is happy with his decision to move to Malaga before replacing Roberto Mancini at The Etihad last summer.

“After I finished with Real Madrid, I had a conversation with Liverpool,” Pellegrini is quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News.

“It is the past, not in the future. I have no regrets at the moment because I now have the chance to manage Manchester City. I have no regrets about that.”

At his pre-match media conference on Friday, Pellegrini insisted City’s clash against Liverpool at Anfield won’t decide the title race.

“It’s a very big game, but I do not think it will choose the title,” said Pellegrini. “Every game is a big game now until the end of the season.

“Liverpool have had a great season, so this is an important game. It’s a very big game, it’s the team who are at the top of the table.

“Of course the team that wins this game has more of a chance to win the title. But if you think that this is the finish of the Premier League, I think it is a mistake.”
