The France international has been heavily relied upon by manager Arsene Wenger to lead the Gunners’ front-line this term following injuries to Arsenal’s only other two recognised strikers Yaya Sanogo and Nicklas Bendtner.
The 27-year-old took his tally for the season to 20 in all competitions on Tuesday night as he netted his side’s second goal in the 3-1 win over West Ham at Emirates Stadium.
He has had to lead the line himself for a lot of the season
And ex-Arsenal striker Campbell has been impressed by the forward’s form this season.
“Giroud has been a shining light for Arsenal this season,” said Campbell told talkSPORT.
“He has had to lead the line himself for a lot of the season and now he has scored 17, 18 goals.
“Getting in some goal-scoring help could have been the difference between Arsenal being in a challenging position for the title and having to fight for fourth place. Olivier Giroud couldn’t play the whole season on his own.”
