Manuel Pellegrini fears that Yaya Toure could miss the rest of the season after coming off injured in Manchester City’s defeat by Liverpool on Sunday.

The Ivory Coast midfielder limped off after just 19 minutes at Anfield as the Citizens suffered a 3-2 loss to the Merseyside outfit.

Toure is expected to miss Wednesday’s clash against Sunderland at Etihad Stadium and Pellegrini admits that the 30-year-old may struggle to be fit for the run-in.

“It’s difficult for Yaya to be in the next game. We will see tomorrow (Monday), I don’t know how serious he is injured,” said Pellegrini.

“I think it will be difficult for him to finish playing this season.”

Pellegrini insisted that City will continue to fight for the Premier League title, despite their defeat by the Reds.

“We will continue fighting, nothing is finished today,” said Pellegrini.

“If Liverpool win their four games that they have to play and win 14 games in a row they deserve to be the champions. If they don’t win their four games, we are going to be.

“The title didn’t finish today.”
