Raheem Sterling believes his strike in a 3-2 win against Manchester City last Sunday was the best goal of his Liverpool career so far.

The 19-year-old helped the Reds make the perfect start to their potential title decider as he collected Luis Suarez’s pass and outwitted experienced City duo Joe Hart and Vincent Kompany.

It was definitely my best goal so far

England international Sterling had previously scored a brilliant brace as Liverpool were emphatic 5-1 winners against Arsenal in one of the performances of the Premier League season.

However, Sterling feel his Citizens goal was much more important in the context of the Premier League title race, with the league leaders six points clear of third-placed City.

“Scoring two against Arsenal was a big highlight for me, but [to score] in this match because it was a crucial game for us, it was definitely my best goal so far,” Sterling told Liverpool’s website.

“It was definitely a big encouragement for the boys and a great team effort.

“Everyone worked really well. Even when it went to 2-2, everyone kept their character. It was a great all-round team performance and the fans were great as well, so it was a good day on the whole for Liverpool.”

Sterling has scored seven goals and made three assists in 29 appearances this season, and the Liverpool forward is happy with his much-improved goal record.

“Last year I only got two goals and should have had a few more,” Sterling added.

“This year, I’ve taken a few chances and even missed a few as well, so I could be on 10 or thereabouts now if I’d taken my chances.
“It’s a target for me in the rest of this season to knock a few more goals in and try to get into double figures. It’d be a great achievement for me.”
