Tim Sherwood admits that the “jury is still out” on Erik Lamela following his club-record move to Tottenham last summer.

The 22-year-old has made just three starts in the Premier League for the north London side after arriving at White Hart Lane in a £30m deal from Roma.

With Erik, the jury is still out because I haven’t seen enough of him. He’s been very unfortunate

Media reports this week had claimed that Sherwood was under pressure from Spurs chiefs to give Lamela more of a chance to prove himself at the club.

But Sherwood laughed off the suggestion, insisting that the only reason the attacking midfielder has not been playing recently is because he is sidelined with a back injury.

“There’ll be no chance Erik’s fit,” Sherwood said ahead of Saturday’s clash with Norwich.

“I read in the paper, or someone told me, that the hierarchy are asking for him to get more opportunities. Chance would be a fine thing, he’s injured.

“Can he kick on and be a big player next season? You know what, I haven’t seen enough of him.

“I’ve got my ideas of who’s capable and probably who’s not. With Erik, the jury is still out because I haven’t seen enough of him. He’s been very unfortunate.”
