Thierry Henry has hailed Joel Campbell as a “great player” and is hoping that the striker returns to Arsenal next season.

The Costa Rica international has impressed for his country at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil and scored in last weekend’s 3-1 win over Uruguay.

The 20-year-old striker has yet to play for the Gunners following his move to the club in 2011 after loan spells at Lorient, Real Betis and Olympiacos.

And Henry is hoping that Campbell will be given the chance to prove himself in the Premier League next season.

“Joel Campbell is a great player. He can pass the ball well and smells the goal,” Henry told BBC Sport.

“We are all waiting to see him in an Arsenal shirt. Hopefully he will be a player Arsene Wenger likes because I would love to see him play for Arsenal.”
