Arsenal won’t finish higher than fourth in the Premier League for the next couple of seasons, according to Tony Adams.

The Gunners have been tipped to kick on next term after Arsene Wenger’s side ended their nine-year trophy drought with an extra-time victory over Hull City in the FA Cup final.

I don’t think Arsenal will finish any higher than fourth at the moment

Arsenal finished seven points behind Premier League champions Manchester City, and Gunners manager Wenger is expected to strengthen his squad in the summer transfer window.

However Adams, who won two Premier League titles during his spell at Highbury, feels the north London side will struggle to compete with cash-rich Chelsea and City next season.

“The club came under criticism for not winning a trophy and I was one of them (who criticised the team)! It was important for them to win that,” Adams told the Daily Express.

“Hopefully it will be a pivotal moment in the careers of the squad members and they can go on and win league titles. However, I don’t think they will win the title as Chelsea and Manchester City are blowing the league apart and Manchester United will come again.

“I don’t think Arsenal will finish any higher than fourth at the moment, which is a little bit sad, but they needed to win the FA Cup because they had stick from the fans.”
