Mario Balotelli and Barack Obama take to Twitter as the USA are 2-1 winners against Ghana in Group G

John Brooks headed in a dramatic winner for USA in a pulsating final 10 minutes to help his side beat Ghana 2-1 in their opening Group G game.

Andre Ayew’s 82nd-minute strike appeared to have salvaged a point for Ghana after former Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey had given Jurgen Kinsmann’s side the lead inside 29 seconds – but Brooks headed in from a corner to seal three big points.

However, Ghana strike late as USA finally falter, or as Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) says: “Bus broke down!”

But it is soon up and running again, prompting tennis legend Serena Williams (@serenawilliams) to tweet: “Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssss”

Former Dutch midfielder George Boateng (@george1boateng) is unhappy his namesake didn’t feature: “Why @KPBofficial didn’t start against the #USA i do not understand! By far the best player when he came on. Such a bad game by #Ghana”
