Steven Gerrard has hinted that he may retire from international football after England’s campaign at the World Cup.

The 34-year-old had previously said that he would make a decision about his future after this summer’s tournament in Brazil.

Let’s see what happens over the next four or five days and we’ll talk again

And speaking after Thursday’s 2-1 defeat by Uruguay left England’s World Cup hopes dangling by a thread, Gerrard said that he will consider his options in the coming days and weeks.

“I think I need to park that hurt and the feeling I have got and see what happens over the next four or five days,” Gerrard said.

“But if you go out in the group stage it will be a very personal low for myself and the team and I am sure everyone will feel very similar.

“It’s not the moment now to talk about my future. But I said before the tournament that I’ll be respectful to you guys [the media] so let’s see what happens over the next four or five days and we’ll talk again.”
