Germany

Manuel Neuer A quiet night for one of the world’s finest shot stoppers. Had to be on his toes to deny Ronaldo from a late free-kick, but will have tougher outings on the training pitch. 6

Jerome Boateng Played out-of-position on the right-hand side, but was rarely troubled by the combined efforts of Nani and Coentrao. A solid afternoon for the sometimes maligned Bayern centre-half. 6

Mats Hummels A solid individual outing at the back, capped off by a fine headed goal in the first half from Kroos corner. An impressive display cut short by a worrying looking knee injury. 8

Per Mertesacker Stayed relatively under the radar for the most part and bar one momentary lapse of concentration to allow Eder a free header, the Arsenal favourite was understandably solid. 7

Benedikt Howedes Playing at left back, the Schalke captain will rarely have a quieter night. Kept Pereira under wraps throughout, but perhaps could’ve been more adventurous in the attacking half. 5

Philipp Lahm Was wasteful early on and presented a gift of an opportunity to Ronaldo, but the right-back come central midfielder regained his composure and dictated the tempo alongside Khedira. 6

Sami Khedira Could, and perhaps should, have steered the ball into an empty net from long-range early on. The big defensive midfielder looked refreshed after his spell on the sidelines and controlled the match with the utmost efficiency. 7

Mesut Ozil Playing in a much deeper role than Arsenal fans are familiar with, but still found himself in dangerous positions high up the pitch. Provided excellent service to Gotze throughout. 7

Thomas Müller (Man of the Match) Coolly slotted home an early penalty on his 50th appearance for the national side, before going on to complete his hat-trick with well taken goals. His afternoon was slightly marred by some outrageous play acting in the build up to Pepe’s red card. 9

Toni Kroos His curling corner provided the assist for Germany’s second, but all-in-all it was a quiet, albeit comfortable, afternoon for the Bayern starlet. 6

Mario Gotze Looked more than comfortable in the false-nine position. Earned his side an early penalty with a cute run into the box, but was presented with a few glorious chances he should have capitalised on. 8

Substitutes

Andre Schurrle Replaced Ozil in the 62nd minute. Provided excellent pace out on the wing and provided the assist for Müller’s hat-trick. A fine cameo. 7

Shkodran Mustafi Replaced Hummels in the 73rd minute. N/A

Lukas Podolski Replaced Müller in the 82nd minute. N/A

Portugal

Rui Patricio Was lucky not to be punished early on when an awful pass out to his midfield was intercepted by Khedira, and will probably feel he should’ve made more of an effort to keep out Müller’s second. 3

Bruno Alves Made a real mess of defending the corner for Germany’s second and was unable to keep Gotze or Müller in check throughout. A rough afternoon for the defensive veteran. 3

Pepe A familiar story: sent off for another show of petulance and unsportsmanlike conduct. Knocked Müller to the floor before appearing to head-butt the already prone German. Destroyed any hope his team had of staying in the game. 1

Miguel Veloso Hard to pinpoint exactly anything he did right, or wrong for that matter. Struggled to get into the game and provided no real challenge to the opposing midfield. 3

Fabio Coentrao missed a glorious chance to put his side back in the game at 2-0, but skewed his shot come cross wide of the post. One of the few positives for the Iberian side before his afternoon was cut short by a groin injury. 5

Cristiano Ronaldo Dangerous from the off, but his frustration grew and his desire to influence the game clouded his decision-making in the final third. Still plagued by a troublesome knee injury, it was not an afternoon he will have enjoyed. 4

Joao Moutinho Simply anonymous. Made little to no impact going forward and was far too lightweight in the two man midfield tasked with stopping Germany’s attacking riches. 3

Raul Meireles The aged midfielder was run ragged by his German counterparts and his impact waned steadily But his last ditch defending to stop Gotze making it four deserves credit. 5

Nani His usual infuriating self, but deserved more from a fierce curling shot in the first half that narrowly bypassed the crossbar. Kept the German defenders on their toes, but ultimately frustrated his manager with some wayward finishing. 4

Joao Pereira The Valencia man hauled down Gotze in the box and perhaps deserved to be sent off and had little luck on the right hand side throughout. 3

Hugo Almeida Had an early chance well saved by Neuer, but was forced off by an injury midway through the first half. 4

Substitutes

Eder Replaced Almeida in the 28th minute. Provided the occasional threat to the German back line, but saw his free header and a great chance to put Portugal back in it fly over the bar. 5

Andre Almeida Replaced Coentrao in the 64th minute. 4
