Alexander Buttner is set to leave Manchester United and join Dinamo Moscow this summer, with the left-back claiming it is the “right moment” to quit the club.

The 25-year-old found his first-team opportunities at Old Trafford limited last term and was restricted to just five Premier League starts.

Now, Buttner has indicated that he is to leave United following Louis van Gaal’s appointment as the Red Devils’ new manager.

“Van Gaal never gave me the chance in the Dutch national team, despite being voted man of the match 14 times at Manchester United,” Buttner told De Telegraaf.

“Apparently, he is not very confident about me. So I think this is the right moment to leave.”

Discussing Dinamo Moscow, Buttner added: “But I am convinced that the club now can challenge for the championship and then move into the Champions League.”

Dutch defender Buttner joined United from Vitesse Arnhem for an undisclosed fee in August 2012.
