Marouane Fellaini says he wants to hold talks with new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.

The 26-year-old is reported to be deemed surplus to requirements by the Dutch coach after a disappointing first season at the 20-time English champions.

Fellaini failed to score and make any assists in 16 Premier League appearances last term following his £27.5m switch from Everton on transfer deadline day last summer.

The Belgium international scored as Marc Wilmots’s side came from behind to beat Algeria 2-1 in their Group H opener last week – but Fellaini rubbished the suggestion that he is play for his future.

“I want to meet Van Gaal and look him straight in the eye,” Fellaini told the Mirror.

“I am not playing at this World Cup for a transfer. I feel good at Manchester United. I have to admit that this season was one which I want to forget as quickly as possible. But I am still the same Marouane.”
