Manchester United appear to have lost out to Zenit Saint-Petersburg in the race for Ezequiel Garay’s signature after the defender’s agent confirmed that a move to the Russian club is set to go through this week.

The Benfica centre-half has long been linked with a transfer to Old Trafford, speculation which has heightened following the departures of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic this summer.

However, the Argentina international now looks set to move to Zenit for a fee believed to be around £15m.

“The deal will be finalised without any problem, there will be news between Wednesday and Thursday,” Zurro told Ole.

Garay, 27, scored six goals in 27 league appearances for Benfica last season.
