England take on Uruguay in their second World Cup clash as both sides attempt to register their first Group D victory of the tournament in Brazil.
I’d rather not see him [Suarez] on the pitch
Suarez didn’t feature in Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Costa Rica as the 27-year-old continues to recover from a knee injury which he suffered against Newcastle United last month.
And Liverpool forward Sterling, who scored nine Premier League goals last season, is hoping Suarez doesn’t recover in time to line up against England.
“I’d rather not see him on the pitch. We know he can score some spectacular goals,” Sterling said.
“But, we can’t just think about Luis Suarez, they have other players. He is a great player and most of our defenders have played against him before.”
Sterling was England’s man of the match as Roy Hodgson’s suffered a 2-1 defeat by Italy in their Group D opener, playing a part in Daniel Sturridge’s strike.
And the 19-year-old Liverpool man admitted he did experience pre-match nerves despite a confident performance.
“I wanted to show the world what I can do. I was a bit nervous at first.”
