Chambers made his debut for the Saints on the opening day of the Premier League season, going on to rack up a further 22 top-flight appearances during the 2013/14 campaign.
Wenger described signing the 19-year-old as a gamble – however, Saints legend Dodd talked up Chambers following the defender’s big-money move to Emirates Stadium.
“I saw Arsene Wenger in the paper today saying it might be a little bit of a gamble,” Dodd told talkSPORT.
“I don’t see it as a gamble. He’s a very good player. He played 18 times last season and played fantastically well.
“The money goes up because he’s English but he’s proven in those games that he is a very good player.”
