Mario Pasalic says he is happy to follow in the footsteps of his idol Frank Lampard after sealing a move to Chelsea.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder completed his switch to the Blues from Croatian side Hajduk Split on Wednesday, becoming Chelsea’s second summer signing.

I am a central midfielder, my favourite player is Frank Lampard, and so I am very happy to be a Chelsea player

Pasalic missed out on a spot in Croatia’s World Cup squad after making the initial 30-man cut following an eye-catching season in the Croatian top-flight.

The German-born playmaker scored 11 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions, and he joined Jose Mourinho’s squad for their first pre-season training session this afternoon.

“I am very happy because I am now a Chelsea player,” Pasalic told Chelsea’s website.

“I am very impressed by the training ground and I must thank everybody at Hajduk. This is now a new start in my career.

“I am a central midfielder, my favourite player is Frank Lampard, and so I am very happy to be a Chelsea player.”
