Arsenal have completed the signing of 19-year-old Calum Chambers from Southampton.

The Saints teenager has signed a long-term deal with the north London club, becoming Arsenal’s fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy and David Ospina.

Here is the best of the Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, to Chambers’s move to the Gunners.

The man-of-the-moment (@CalumChambers95): “I would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to everyone at @SouthamptonFC for everything they have done & for making this possible… I’m looking forward to joining up with my new team mates today & beginning preparation for the season ahead. Thanks for all your messages.”

Gunners forward Theo Walcott (@theowalcott) welcomes his new team-mate: “Great to meet chambers1995 and looking forward to working with him.”

Arsenal left-back Kieran Gibbs (@KieranGibbs) is happy with the arrival of his new Arsenal team-mate: “Welcome to the team @CalumChambers95”

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann (@DietmarHamann) defends Southampton’s selling strategy: “£16m for Chambers. Make hay while you can Saints, totally agree with their strategy selling players for twice and 3times what they worth.”

England legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) feels sorry for Southampton supporters: “Arsenal have completed the signing of Calum Chambers from, you’ve guessed it, Southampton. Really feel for Saints fans. This is ridiculous!”

Ex-Saints defender Danny Higginbotham (@Higginbotham05) is concerned for the Saints ahead of the new season: “Situation at Southampton is not good. How you can lose the spine of your team and manager in two months is a worrying sign for next season… After huge strides over the last few years the saints could be in a relegation battle. New manager and any players will take time to gel.”
