The Gunners came up against their all-time record goal-scorer Thierry Henry in New York – and the Frenchman’s corner led to the friendly’s only goal as former Southampton striker Bradley Wright-Phillips netted in the 35th minute.
Abou Diaby, who is continuing his return from a long-term knee injury, had the ball in the net in the second half but it was ruled out by the officials, allowing the Major League Soccer outfit seal a famous win.
“It was our first game, and I believe physically it was a bit too high for us for a first game, because some of the players came back just last Monday and had to play a game today that was a bit too high a level,” said Wenger.
