Steven Gerrard admits he is excited by the potential of Liverpool’s summer signings Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic.

Brendan Rodgers snapped up England international Lallana in a £25m deal from Southampton in June before Benfica winger Markovic made a £20m switch to Anfield.

The former Southampton captain has suffered a knee injury, ruling him out of the start of the season, but Serbia winger Markovic has impressed in the club’s pre-season friendlies.

And Gerrard, 34, revealed that he looked up clips of the 20-year-old Benfica star on YouTube to check out the Reds’s fourth signing of the summer.

“I know Adam a lot better than Lazar, and I know he’s going to be a fantastic player, he’s got balance, he’s got skill but also what the fans may not know, is he’s good leader,” Gerrard told Liverpool’s website.

“He was captain of Southampton, so he’ll be a really good member of the squad, so I’m really pleased with that one.

“Lazar I’ve obviously seen clips on YouTube like every other Liverpool fan. He looks quick pacey and he’ll get the fans on the edge of the seat. We’ll see with time, I’ve got big trust in Brendan Rodgers and I’m sure who he brings in will be up to scratch.”
