Southampton will struggle to keep Tottenham Hotspur target Morgan Schneiderlin, according to former Saints chairman Rupert Lowe.

The France international is desperate to follow former Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino to White Hart Lane in the summer transfer window.

The Saints have told the 24-year-old midfielder that he will not be sold to the north London club, prompting the former Strasbourg man to take to Twitter.

And former Southampton chairman Lowe feels the south coast club will ultimately find it difficult to hold onto the highly-rated midfielder.

“He’s a fantastic player, he’s a fantastic person and when we signed him from Strasbourg I was amazed we were able to do that,” Lowe told talkSPORT.

“I was expecting to be competing with clubs like Arsenal because I personally think he is the probably best midfielder in English football at the moment.

“I have huge admiration for him. I hope he stays at Southampton but, at the end of the day, if a bigger club comes in for him most players see that as a promotion, a bigger salary, and it is very difficult to keep them.”
