The Reds secured their sixth summer signing on Tuesday evening as Divock Origi joined Dejan Lovren, Lazar Markovic, Emre Can, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert in moving to Anfield.
The players that we have brought in have a clear profile of the role that we want them to play and we see them as players who can develop in the future as well
Tottenham reinvested Gareth Bale’s £85.3m fee poorly last summer despite adding seven new players to their squad, resulting in Andre Villas-Boas being axed and a sixth-place finish.
However, Rodgers is adamant that Liverpool are using the funds raised by the £75m sale of Luis Suarez to add much-needed depth to the Reds squad ahead of the new season.
“We are a different club and it’s a different vision that we have here. There is a strategy behind what we are doing. We were talking with the recruitment team last season and we knew that we needed to improve the depth of our squad,” said Rodgers.
“Last season, we weren’t strong enough in depth in numbers and quality so we were always earmarked in the summer to bring in a number of players, hoping that we were in the Champions League so that we could try to challenge on all fronts.
“The players that we have brought in have a clear profile of the role that we want them to play and we see them as players who can develop in the future as well.”
