Arsene Wenger moved to reassure Arsenal fans that he will try and bring in a striker before Monday’s transfer deadline after his side were held to a 1-1 draw at Leicester City.

Alexis Sanchez scored his first goal for the Gunners in the first half but City fought back and levelled two minutes later through Leonardo Ulloa.

The north Londoners were forced to rely on Yaya Sanogo up front for most of the game before the Frenchman was replaced by Lukas Podolski in the second half.

And Wenger insists he is in the market to bring in attacking reinforcements after Olivier Giroud was ruled out until the new year with a broken leg.

“Look, the decision is not to make, it’s to find the personnel – that’s the problem,” Wenger told Sky Sports.

“We are open and we work on it but let’s not fool ourselves as well that the solution every time you don’t win is just to buy a new player.

“Manchester City lost yesterday to Stoke – they have strikers. It’s not because you buy just one player that you win the game today. But we want to, and we are open to it.

“The pressure to buy is always there, no matter if Olivier Giroud is injured or not, every time you don’t win a game. We try our best, everybody works very hard at the club to do very well.

“Yes, we are disappointed not to get the three points, but let’s not all put that down to only missing a striker. Football is a bit more complicated than that.”

Sunday’s draw left Arsenal seventh in the Premier League table, on five points.
